Giving books to children in Sheffield this Christmas. Help us to give a book to a child who might not otherwise receive one.
The Sheffield book flood
Every Christmas Eve in Iceland, people give each other books and spend the night reading - this is known as 'Jólabókaflóðið ' or the book flood.
We wanted to create a book flood in Sheffield, and give as many children as possible a book this Christmas. So far this year we're working with the S2 food bank and Baby Basics, a charity which distributes second hand baby equipment to families who need it. If we can buy more books than they can use, we'll reach out to other charities to get more books to Sheffield children.
We've now hit our initial target which is amazing and we're hugely grateful to all our backers so far. We're not stopping here though, so please help us reach our stretch target of £2000 so we can reach more children.
We're also accepting donations of new, unwrapped baby and children's books at libraries in Sheffield until December 8th. Libraries currently accepting donations are: Central, Hillsborough Children's, Broomhill, Highfield, Ecclesall. Ecclesfield, Southey, Burngreave, Chapeltown, Totley, Frecheville, Jordanthorpe, Newfield Green & Gleadless should all be accepting donations from Monday 27th November.
We've also appointed two independent auditors to check the money's going where we say it will: local author Beverley Ward and Baby Basics will be making sure we're on the straight and narrow.
This project is totally dependent on lovely people like you donating to share their love of books and reading with Sheffield children, so all donations, large and small, are very gratefully appreciated, and please spread the word.
