Aim

Please help us repair our shed roof, to protect the trains, so we are still able to give rides for the local community after Covid-19

In March 2020 the Joys of Life Railway Club committee identified a need for repairs to our shed roof as water was getting in from several places. This shed is essential for secure storage of the equipment needed for running train rides.

This work was expected to be costly, when we hold open days train rides are free of charge but we had hoped to raise money through donations at these events, but Covid-19 has prevented this and delayed us being able to start the work. In the absence of our usual income stream, club members have given generously over the winter enabling us to get the job started, but now we could do with a little extra help please to get the shed water tight before autumn arrives.

Water damaged mouldy beam caused by moisture getting in to the back wall

Volunteers maintain the railway as cost effectively as possible to keep train rides free for the local community & visitors, however there are some areas where we require professional help.

A local stonemason has given us a very generous price to rearrange the capping stones on top of the shed's back wall and make good joints between them. This should prevent water from entering the wall and seeping through to the inside which was identified as one of the major issues. He will also make good an adjacent section of wall which is in poor condition, the work is due to start imminently and we urgently need to raise more money to cover the cost please.

As our trains are so small we won't be able to have an open day for the public to ride until 2m social distancing is abolished in Wales. We'll invite all contributors to the first open day we are able to hold once train rides are possible again.

Thank you for any contribution you are able to make.
