 New stretch target

We've gone above and beyond our target! We want to say Thank you and a massive well done from the Take A Part team.

Take A Part pledge to use this extra funding to take the Shed On Wheels into Plymouth's communities to deliver autumn harvest days in local greenspaces. It would be a wonderful way to say thank you, celebrate the season and learn new skills.

Thank you!

Project aim

Help Take A Part refurbish their lovely, iconic, bespoke, old Morris milk float called the Shed On Wheels. It needs repairs so it can travel in and around Plymouth communities again!

About the project

Take A Part is a socially engaged organisation working within Plymouth communities to co-commission and co-create contemporary art to: risk-take, provoke and engage communities to establish and respond to local agenda and need. Our Shed On Wheels, a lovely 1970’s electric milk float, has been roaming Plymouth since it was commissioned in 2012.

What is the Shed On Wheels?

The Shed On Wheels is vital space that has been taken into Plymouth communities to become a focal point for communities to gather. It features a kitchen, eating and meeting space where projects are delivered and conversations are held on sustainability, green space use, community buildings, food and foraging.  The Shed On Wheels has

  • 'Started the Conversation' for Whitleigh Big Local
  • created 'The Allotment Project' Efford's social enterprise working with school groups
  • supported All Ways Apples events at Devonport Guildhall to teach people how to press apple juice
  • supported the Neighbourhood Planning process in Barne Barton as a consultation space
  • provided apple juice and events for Union Street Party and Neswick Street's Got Talent in Stonehouse
  • visited North Prospect's Ham Woods to talk about improvements to the greenspace and the launch of the Peter Randall-Page sculpture
  • been used as a stage for our amazing Green Orchestra project on Lord Mayor's Day, celebrating orchestral music and healthy eating!

We invite people and communities to use the Shed On Wheels to share their stories of Plymouth, map their experiences and develop new adventures.

It is made out of recycled materials including old organ pipes, champagne corks, a fireguard and a bedstead. It has a canvas awning opening up the space to larger audiences and to accommodate the changing weather.

The Shed On Wheels continues to evolve and change as we learn about how people respond to and interact with it. But the Shed On Wheels needs repairs.

The success of our crowdfunder campaign will cover the cost of £4000 to replace the batteries to get the Shed On Wheels back up, running and roaming communities in Plymouth.

Who are Take A Part?

Take A Part is an arts project for Plymouth communities, we grow and eat together, make film, broadcast and commission work that responds to local needs.

Our purpose is to engage, educate and inform new audiences in contemporary arts while developing policy and setting agendas for neighbourhood regeneration initiatives in Plymouth. Take A Part’s work contributes directly to the social infrastructure of the city.

In 2011, after 5 years of continued artistic engagement in the Efford Community, we launched Efford as the Capital of Culture for Plymouth. The Efford communities experience, expertise, dedication and enthusiasm in the arts firmly established them in this role. When Take A Part started working with Efford it was 5% most deprived in the city, now it is the 12%, improving all the time.  Our support secured High View School in Efford an Arts Mark Gold Award and UK Literacy School of the Year Award for 2014.

Since then Take A Part has expanded taking our work and understanding of community arts engagement to new communities in Plymouth, thinking about how arts could be used by them to support their own regeneration process whilst referring to, and working with, Efford to support and collaborate across some projects. We engage with 6 communities in the city with a population in excess of 50,000.
