Who We Are
Sheriff Hutton Bridge Cricket Club (SHBCC) is located just outside York. Founded in 1949, we are far more than just a sports club—we are one of the last remaining social hubs in our local rural community.
As local pubs and shops close, our clubhouse has become a vital lifeline against rural isolation. From running junior, women's, and girls' cricket programs to hosting community gatherings, we ensure everyone in our area has a warm, welcoming space to belong.
The Challenge
Keeping our club warm, active, and usable year-round has become an uphill battle due to rising energy costs. High utility bills strain our resources, limiting how much we can reinvest back into community sport and local programs.
Our Solution & Vision
With your support and funding through the British Gas Energy for Tomorrow initiative, we are installing a state-of-the-art Solar PV system with battery storage.
How this changes everything:
- 60% Self-Sufficiency: Cuts our dependence on grid electricity.
- £4,000 Annual Savings: Reduces energy bills and grid exports significantly.
- 100% Reinvested: Every penny saved goes straight back into our community—keeping cricket affordable for local families, expanding our women’s and girls’ teams, and keeping our doors open in winter as a warm space for elderly residents.
