Shadow, a friendly two-year-old French bulldog, urgently needs your help for the chance to live a healthier, happy life. This fun-loving boy, who adores dashing around and playing with his squeaky toys, has been diagnosed with severe Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS). This serious condition, sadly all too common in flat-faced breeds, makes it incredibly difficult for Shadow to breathe.
Dogs like Shadow regularly struggle to breathe, often to the point where they can’t even sleep or rest properly. Even mild exercise on a warm day can put them at risk of heat stroke, collapse or even death. The continuous effort to breathe can also lead to gastro-intestinal problems. Shadow’s condition is serious and requires multiple surgeries to improve his quality of life.
At Mayhew, we have already taken the first step to help Shadow by operating on his nostrils, a relatively simple procedure. However, the next critical step is urgent palate surgery, a more complex operation. We are deeply grateful to the RSPCA who will be performing this surgery for Shadow at a discounted rate, but we need your help to cover the costs.
We need to raise £1,000 to fund the cost of Shadow’s surgeries and ongoing care.
This money will go towards the initial care and procedures Shadow has already received here at Mayhew, the upcoming palate surgery and the ongoing medication, treatment and care he will need to get him back on his paws, feeling fit and healthy.
Shadow’s plight highlights the poor welfare issues that many brachycephalic breeds face. These animals often endure significant suffering just to perform basic functions like breathing. By supporting Shadow today, you are not only helping one dog but also raising awareness about the health implications of breeding practices that prioritise the appearance of our four-legged friends over their health.
Please will you help us give Shadow the chance to breathe easier and live the joyful life he deserves. Any amount you can contribute towards our £1,000 target will make a big difference.
Thank you for your kindness and support.
Any additional funds raised as part of this appeal will go to support the hundreds of dogs and cats Mayhew cares for each year.
