Help SFiCE ease the burden of food poverty & reduce food waste, with free projects that help vulnerable communities in Nottingham.

by SFiCE Foundation in Nottingham, United Kingdom

SFiCE Foundation projects support people in need in the Nottingham area, whether they are experiencing food poverty, physical/mental health issues, unemployment or homelessness, whether they are battling with dependencies, are an asylum seeker/refugee… This local foundation aims to help those in hardship, those with no recourse to funds, the elderly and other vulnerable people.

Remember, your donation is worth double to us with matched funding from the National Emergencies Trust! NET will match fund every donation up to £250, up to a maximum of £10k. So if you give us £250, we get £500!

Since 2019 our projects have grown and focus on empowering those needs as much as possible:

- Our Social Café and Homeless Outreach projects currently produces over 500 two-course meals and food parcels each month;

- Cooking on a Budget teaches simple low cost meals step by step on video;

- ESOL classes are now held online with Zoom;

- Health & Wellbeing is now the SFiCE Support Line where Support Line staff connect to people by phone as a sounding board for mental and emotional offloading, to mitigate loneliness and isolation, make referrals and help with appointments.

Projects have evolved over time to respond to issues becoming more complex, but the foundation still operates as a micro team equivalent to less than 2 full time staff!

Here is some more information about SFiCE Foundation's current projects:

Those in food poverty find financial relief through the SFiCE Social Cafe, not having to sacrifice eating to pay their bills. The nutritional content of our food ensures fresh fruit and vegetables get into people’s diets.

Homeless Outreach is where we take a pop up stall into the city centre with volunteers, and give hot food, drinks, snacks, toiletries and clothing to people experiencing homelessness. Thanks to Tesco Mobile, we have also been able to distribute a number of smart phones.

The SFiCE Support Line is a way to keep contact with society's vulnerable, ensure their needs are being met, help people to self-refer and feel integrated in society. Free telephone chats are available for service users to offload worries, receive mental health support, and help around housing, evictions, welfare rights, and loneliness, while also giving referrals to foodbanks, Sharewear, and other charities.

Our free ESOL classes are also there to help non-English speakers integrate into society, articulate they are in need of support and to progress through life. We have refugee students who have started to study nursing, and community police roles, wanting to give back to the society that has welcomed them for safety.

Cooking on a Budget teaches recipes step by step on video, showing how to feed 4 people for under £4. This project encourages self-sufficiency to meet needs, cookery and budgeting skills, reducing charity dependency. Our videos make cooking a range of delicious, nutritious and cost-friendly dishes a breeze. We think they're perfect for people who want to learn new kitchen skills, reduce their consumption of packaged foods, and save money.

Furthermore SFiCE is evolving COAB to be LIVE COOK-A-LONG classes with guest chefs from the community!
