Our project redistributes donated sewing machines to those on low income, connecting communities, training and upskilling - changing lives.
One Planet Abingdon's successful volunteer run community upcycling project now needs a helping hand!
What do we do? Our volunteers redistribute unused sewing machines that are gathering dust in corners of countless homes to people from low income backgrounds who can use them for income generation.
This project is part of an overall scheme where our sewing classes teach incoming community members how to use an electric machine, upcycle and mend as part of our drive to reduce our consumption of fast fashion and clothes going to landfill.
What impact will your support have? With only a small amount of extra funding, we will be able to pay a coordinator for one day a week to help volunteers keep this donation project running. You'll see how owning a sewing machine can change a life for a refugee, provide community for isolated individuals, turn the tide of mental health for many, provide skills for a more sustainable future.

Why do we need funds? We've distributed 19 machines in the space of only two months, and this project is flying! We check, repair and transport the machines, and this generates expenses. This project needs and deserves paid coordination time, and a dedicated expenses pot.
What's our long term vision? We'd love to create a cooperative where recipients can come together to income generate as a group. It's a dream that depends on your generosity. Today a project coordinator, tomorrow a thriving enterprise, lets dream big and see what tomorrow can bring!.
