Aim

To bring show about Highly Sensitive Children to live, bring it to Voila theatre festival, make audience aware of the high sensitivity issue

THE HISTORY OF THE SHOW
The show and play are inspired by my childhood and adolescence. It is shaped by my experience of growing up as a highly sensitive child. High Sensitivity, especially when it is not recognised and named, can become a source of profound confusion, self-doubt, and intense suffering.

For many years, I did not understand why the world felt so overwhelming, why ordinary environments felt unbearable, or why my emotional responses were consistently dismissed as exaggeration and hysteria.

It took me nearly forty years to recognise these traits, to understand their nature, and to learn how to live with them. Now I even enjoy and honour them.

Highly sensitive people are largely absent from cultural narratives, and their inner lives are rarely represented with seriousness. With this show, I want to give voice and visibility to an experience that is often dismissed and misunderstood.

AUDIENCE
30% of the world’s population have the High Sensitivity Trait. So an average theatre audience would have more or less the same representation of Highly Sensitive People or maybe even higher because Highly Sensitive People tend to be drawn to creative world. But the show is not just for them. Yes, I want to make them feel mirrored, and seen, and understood, and not alone. But also I want those, who don’t have the trait, to see how deep it is routed into the nervouse system. Maybe it will make them treat someone they know better or maybe it will help them move towards supporting someone they love and who has the same trait. Especially I hope it will work for parents-children relationships.

SYNOPSIS
Sensitive is Not Crazy or The World through the Eyes of a Highly Sensitive Child (40 min)

A punchy and bodily theatre piece on the gap between outer reality and inner experience in a highly sensitive child: at the edge of reality and absurd – this is the world highly sensitive people live in every day.

A single performer shifts between identities and using only light, sound, and bodily transformation to externalise an internal nervous system reality, making invisible cognition visible.

A 6-year-old-child – Kiddi – is shown through the body of a 45-year-old woman. It raises the question if she is remembering, if she is a child now or if she is crazy. But quickly the audience starts feeling the experince of high sensitivity and see the world thourgh the eyes of 6-year-old Kiddi.

Ultimately, the piece refuses pathology and refuses blame. It frames sensitivity as a structure that cannot be removed:

‘You can’t unmake it – you can only learn to live with it, or be taught how to live with it.’
