The Seilich Wildflower Meadow

Aim
We want to create an enormous wildflower meadow which will be the largest habitat of its kind in the area!
In the UK, we’ve lost 97% of our wildflower meadows; a habitat that once buzzed with life, brimmed with butterflies and bees, hummed with bird song and drank in carbon. These meadows were once found throughout our landscape and have now disappeared as farming has intensified and our towns and cities have grown.
To reverse this trend , we want to create an enormous wildflower meadow (the equivalent of four and a half football fields!) which will be the largest habitat of its kind in the area! This meadow will provide a place for local wildlife to thrive, restoring populations of our pollinators and sinking local carbon emissions.
A meadow on the scale planned would provide habitat for around 20 million wildflowers, support thousands of pollinating insects (such as bees and butterflies), and sink around 2370KG’s of CO2 every single year!
Seilich is a small family run company. We grow the ingredients we use in our award winning natural skincare products in our existing wildflower meadow, and use the profits from product sales to manage and create even more wildflower meadows in the local community (and for the benefit of nature). To date we've created the equivalent of an entire football field of meadow habitat!
The project costs are as follows:
- High quality native mix of wildflower seed (from Scotia seeds) £8000
- Management equipment (flail mower with grass collector) £2000
- Land rental, ground preparation and seed sowing £2000
We also have more land available to us, so the more we raise, the more seed we will buy and the more meadows we will create! Management (and further expansion) of these meadows going forward will be paid for by profits from product sales.
Aside from the warm fuzzy feeling you'll get from knowing that you've helped to create an amazing space for wildlife, many of our rewards come with some lovely bonuses! In addition, once the meadow is up and running there'll be opportunities to come and visit.
