See Me Be

Aim: See Me Be aims to enable adults with a learning disability in Wiltshire to gain and maintain paid employment.

Hello, my name is Lucy and I founded See Me Be in 2020. The aim of See Me Be is to advocate for the rights of adults with a learning disability and to provide meaningful opportunities for paid employment. 

We currently have a community garden called The Old Orchard. Following a successful fundraiser we now have a beautiful space where people can grow fresh fruit and vegetables, socialise and gain valuable experience for future employment. 

We have a wonderful Job Coach who works closely with individual's, their families and carer's to learn about the work they would like to do and to enable them to access employment with the bespoke support they need to succeed and achieve their goals. 

See Me Be is just getting started and we have big dreams! We want to break down barriers to inclusion and diversity in the work force.

At present, only 5.1% of adults with a learning disability known to their local authority in England are in paid work (NHS Digital, 2021).

Research undertaken by Mencap showed that people with learning disabilities often prove to be loyal employees and that team dynamics and overall performance have been known to improve as a result of employing someone with a learning disability. 

To enable us to continue our work, your donations to our fundraiser make a significant difference. 

A donation of £5 will buy more seeds for planting,

£10 can buy new gardening tools,

£20 could pay for the DBS check of our next Job Coach,

£30 can enable our Job Coach to meet with one more person to start their assessment,

£75 could enable us to provide training to a local employer to help them become more disability confident.

Over the next 5 years See Me Be aims to double the current number of adults with a learning disability to gain paid employment in Wiltshire, not only to improve the physical and mental health of this marginalised group but also to create a more diverse work force and resilient community.
