New stretch target

The Friends of Holt Hall is seeking partnership working to enable future enriching educational opportunities and other community activities at the Holt Hall site, particularly for young people, and in so doing, to preserve it as a community asset.

Please help us Secure the future of Outdoor Learning at Holt Hall in Norfolk.

For the past 70 years Holt Hall has served generations of school children from Norfolk and beyond, providing both residential and day visit outdoor and environmental learning experiences. It has been successful in this thanks to accommodation and facilities in a fine Victorian House, additional laboratory and teaching rooms, a walled garden for practical work (with plants for food), a protected woodland and historic lake.

The problem :

Norfolk County Council has decided to cease providing Outdoor Learning at Holt Hall, and are now moving to put the house and grounds up for sale.

We know from the almost 7000 petition signatories , and the support for our campaign to keep the service going, that this would be a terrible loss for the children, and the community.

Friends of Holt Hall (FoHH) has an opportunity to secure outdoor learning at Holt Hall, but it will take help from your donations to get there.

Why try to secure this future?

Outdoor Learning  benefits children enormously. The facilities at Holt Hall benefit all ages and abilities of children, and young people, sharing and learning about our environment with experts.  It provides all that schools need for excellent outdoor learning courses, and it’s location, just a few miles from the North Sea coast, means school children can experience and enjoy both coast and countryside.

There is exciting potential for a community led venture, and partners to secure and extend these services for children and young people, and add a whole range of other benefits for the wider community.

Exciting examples: small festivals, outdoor pizza cooking, fungal forays, volunteering to maintain the grounds and vegetable gardens.  Holt Hall has been a successful venue for Christmas and local fair events, and themed weekends.

Community and private groups have, and could in future, run courses for all community projects and provide support for youth groups, and access to work for some people.

Who are we?

“Friends of Holt Hall” (FoHH) is a small charity that has supported children visiting Holt Hall for many years. Our members want to see this valuable facility working into the future, and for the community to also benefit from this wonderful environment .

It is because we have seen this facility work so well for so many years that we know that if we get the business plan for new operations properly developed, with input from the community, outdoor learning at Holt Hall can be successful and give pleasure to many more for years to come.

We have a very limited time to get a lot of work done with partners and supporters.

Why we need your help.

We need funds to make sure we can do our planning properly, to sound professional standards and independently of other interests.

Our dedicated FoHH trustees and volunteers are by definition unpaid, and there is only so much we can do on this basis. We are proud of how far we have come.

To have the best chance of success we are drawing on the advice of successful community projects elsewhere but we need dedicated and paid help to develop robust plans, proposals to Norfolk County Council and a cover a range of fees.

In the longer term we need funding to adapt our mission to help children and young people access outstanding outdoor, environmental and green revolution experiences in Norfolk and our region.

With your help we can take this to the next stage!

Donations will enable us to develop our plans so we can make credible and attractive proposals to Norfolk County Council.  We know we shall be competing with others who may have ambitions that are much less focused on the community and the widest accessibility.  But the other people in the race don’t have the wonderful support and goodwill that we do. So please donate and please spread the word.
