As Andy Burnham prepares to enter Number 10 as our next Prime Minister, we need him to put climate and nature at the centre of his agenda. 

As reports have repeatedly warned, we are off track and underprepared for the breakdown of nature and the climate crisis. Despite promises of ‘Change’ in the Labour manifesto, under Keir Starmer, the Government fell short. The first 100 days will define what his premiership will look like and who he will be governing for. Will it be you, or will it be billionaires and fossil fuel lobbyists?

It’s all to play for in this moment. That’s why we need your help.

A future that invests in adaptation to make sure your community is protected from flooding, sewage pollution and deadly levels of heat.

In recent weeks, the UK saw record-breaking heatwave – where schools closed, crops failed, and heat-related deaths spiked. Meanwhile, Andy Burnham is about to become the country’s next Prime Minister, who will be responsible for how we adapt respond and protect communities from future threats. 

We know he’s already feeling the heat from corporate lobbyists and unions who want him to scrap net zero and ‘drill, baby, drill’. A better future is possible. One where energy bills are not driving up by polluter profits or war; but home grown clean energy that drives down bills and protects household incomes. 

The stakes couldn’t be higher. 

Because, while the lobbyists whisper in Andy’s ear, the UK’s national security is at risk. 

💣 The Joint Intelligence Committee (MI5/MI6) warns that global nature loss is now a risk to the UK’s national security. 

☠️ The Department for the Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) warns that our food supply faces ‘catastrophic failure’ by 2030. 

😱 And the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries warns that nature loss could cause the global financial system to collapse – with a 25% hit to global GDP.

If you’ve watched the People’s Emergency Briefing film you’ll know that these aren’t the only warnings – climate and nature breakdown risks plunging the UK into civil unrest, starvation, and crop failure in just a few years’ time.

Our next PM Andy Burnham, knows the danger we’re in better than most politicians. 

As Mayor of Greater Manchester he showed real leadership by supporting the Climate and Nature Bill – landmark legislation to ensure the UK meets its Paris and Montreal commitments on climate and nature. Burnham signed the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative and set science-led carbon-neutral targets for Greater Manchester. It’s time for our next Prime Minister to show real leadership in No10.

We don’t need him to be the messiah, or a naughty boy… 

We need him to keep his promise and secure our future instead of selling it out to corporate lobbyists.

🌐 Pressure the Government to ensure it actually delivers the UK’s international environmental commitments, under the Paris Agreement and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

📣 Work with politicians from all parties to build an unstoppable consensus of voices calling for change because this issue is too urgent to be left to tribal politics.
