Aim

To support our work to care for and rehabilitate horses needing to return to the rescue’s care. Always having a safe space to be.

Second Chance Horse Rescue UK (SCHR UK) is the UK branch of Second Chance Horse Rescue Malta.

When horses are rehomed to the UK, circumstances can sometimes change and they may need to return to our care. SCHR UK was established to ensure that every horse we rehome always has a safe place to come back to, no matter what happens.

Every horse that arrives at our UK base undergoes a comprehensive assessment period of at least six weeks. During this time, they receive the highest standard of care, including any necessary veterinary treatment, farrier work, dental care, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation support.

Each horse then follows an individual rehabilitation programme tailored to its specific needs. This allows us to assess their physical and emotional wellbeing, identify any additional support required, and help them regain confidence, comfort, and quality of life and the hope we can find them their forever homes. If we feel they need to stay with us the base offers a safe haven for this.

Our base is run entirely by dedicated volunteers. All funds raised go directly towards the care and rehabilitation of our horses, helping to provide:

• Hay, feed, and bedding
• Rehabilitation equipment and facilities
• Field maintenance and improvements
• Veterinary treatment
• Farrier services
• Dental care
• Physiotherapy and rehabilitation support
