Help SeaGrown mitigate climate change and improve the health of our oceans by scaling up production at the UK’s first offshore seaweed farm.

At the same time as absorbing tons of carbon, seaweed releases oxygen into the surrounding water, uses up other excess nutrients and creates new habitats allowing marine life such as fish, mammals and birds to flourish.

The seaweed we grow will be used to sustainably manufacture products like biodegradable plastics, bio-chemicals, natural food additives, textiles, fertilisers and of course as a highly nutritious food source for our growing population. SeaGrown also uses our farmed seaweed to produce sustainable food seasonings and bath products.
Our ambition is to help the ocean to turn the tide on climate change and keep itself healthy. We have developed a brand new method for seaweed farming which can stand up to the challenging open-water environment of the wild North Sea and allow us to produce ten times more seaweed than originally planned. Our workboat, Bright Blue, has a brilliant local crew who work together to plant the seaweed, regularly check it, and harvest it once it grows. We have also built a seaweed hatchery on board our ship, Southern Star, where we can produce the seeds for the farm. So, SeaGrown is all set to revolutionise seaweed farming in the UK, but we need your help!

With your help, we will be able to grow an extra 4 kilometres of seaweed on our ocean farm. This will represent an exciting step forwards for SeaGrown and will offer endless possibilities to other coastal regions to join us in our mission. We are truly excited about this new way of working in harmony with our incredible coastal seas to safeguard our natural resources, enhance our marine environment and protect the planet. To give you an idea of the scale of the project, this extra 4 kilometres of seaweed would be enough to absorb the equivalent carbon dioxide emissions from:

We have set an ambitious crowdfunding target of £25k to achieve our aim of planting an extra 4km of seaweed growing line, but quite simply the more we can raise the more we can grow and the more carbon dioxide the seaweed can absorb!
Of course, we don’t expect your help for nothing so we’ve set up an exciting range of rewards for anyone who wants to support us and be part of our crowd. The rewards range from discounts on our seaweed products or in the café / bar onboard our ship Southern Star, right through to a VIP guided tour of our ship and visit to the ocean farm with our crew.
But, the real reward for all our supporters will be knowing that you’ve helped the ocean stay healthy and turn the tide in the fight against climate change.
