THE SCUTTLE PROJECT
Introduction
Beach plastic is becoming a sad reality that younger generations are being forced to live with. They don’t have the privilege of knowing what it means to twiddle their toes in plastic-free sand and our efforts to reverse the plastic pollution crisis is hardly scraping the surface of debris left by previous and current generations alike.
Enter SCUTTLE the Cuttle…
SCUTTLE the Cuttle was created to inspire and empower the next generation of eco-warriors to protect our seas. It's a ‘toy & tool’ like no other, the first of its kind, developed thanks to a brilliant cross-collaboration between young school kids and beach cleaners to collect the plastic that too often gets left behind.
Believe it or not…
The most dangerous type of plastic is the unseen or hard-to-see kind also known as microplastic; on average we consume 5 grams per week (the weight of a credit card) and it can now be found in our brains, our baby fetuses and the deepest parts of our oceans.
Empowering younger generations is THE ONLY WAY forward
Greed, ignorance, inadequate infrastructure, and a disregard for the environment have driven the marine plastic pollution crisis. But creativity, environmental passion, relentless effort, and unwavering determination hold the power to tackle it—or at the very least, to significantly turn the tide.
We hope that SCUTTLE the Cuttle will ignite and sustain the right values in children and adults alike, by helping to prevent further degradation of the environment and by also arming them with the right tools to combat what’s already there.
Designed with Nature in mind
Wanting our children to grow up into custodians of our planet can only be achieved if we lead by example.
Scuttle the Cuttle was inspired by the ingenious design of the cuttlefish. This versatile tool combines a bucket, scoop, and sieve into one compact marvel.
Lightweight yet durable, it’s made for frequent use and fits effortlessly into any beach bag. Its ergonomic handle ensures a comfortable grip for both kids and adults. The sieve’s mesh, precisely sized at 2.8mm, is designed to capture nurdles and intercept larger microplastics (2.8mm to 5mm) before they break down into even smaller particles. Scuttle the Cuttle is fully recyclable and is crafted from recycled marine plastic pellets.
At Odyssey Innovation, we’re proud to be global pioneers in the Circular Economy, championing the fight against marine plastic pollution. With a proven track record of multi-award-winning products and high-quality recycled marine plastic materials, we’re driving change—one innovation at a time.
What are Microplastics?
Microplastics are tiny plastic fragments or particles measuring less than 5 millimeters (mm) in size, about the width of a pencil eraser or smaller.
They can be divided into two categories based on their origin:
Primary Microplastics: Manufactured at small sizes, such as microbeads in cosmetics, industrial pellets (nurdles), or fibers from textiles. These can range from 1 nanometer (nm) to a few millimeters.
Secondary Microplastics: Created when larger plastic items, like bottles or bags, break down through weathering, sunlight, and physical abrasion. These fragments can vary widely in size but remain under the 5 mm threshold.
YOUR SUPPORT IS CRUCIAL
We need your help to bring Scuttle to more communities. Financial support will allow us to expand and reach broader audiences. Pre-sales and community engagement will create momentum and spread awareness, making Scuttle the Cuttle a tool accessible to all.
Supporting our project means joining a movement for cleaner oceans and sustainable solutions. By removing microplastics from beaches, we help prevent their breakdown and entry into marine food chains. Our use of recycled plastics embodies the circular economy in action, turning waste into practical tools that serve environmental needs.
