Who are we?
Founded in 1965, Scothern Cricket Club has been at the heart of the local community for 60 years. Throughout our history, we’ve fostered a welcoming and supportive environment for players of all backgrounds, providing opportunities for aspiring cricketers to develop their skills and reach their full potential. Beyond the game, we take pride in bringing people together. Creating a fun, inclusive space where cricket lovers can enjoy the sport while strengthening community spirit.
Why are we crowdfunding?
With the support of Sport England and the National Lottery, we are aiming to raise £7,020 to replace our aging covers and sight screens. Years of exposure to the elements, vandalism, and general wear and tear have left them in poor condition, making it increasingly difficult to maintain the quality of cricket we strive for. Until now, we've relied on second-hand and homemade equipment, but it's time for a much-needed investment in safe, durable, and professional-standard gear. In recent years, several matches have been heavily impacted due to the lack of proper equipment, and we are determined to change that. By upgrading our facilities, we can continue providing the high-quality cricketing experience that our players, supporters, and community deserve.
How we’ll spend the money raised
The funds raised will go towards purchasing two brand-new sight screens for both ends of the ground (£2,640) and a set of high-quality, lightweight, and easy-to-move pitch covers (£4,380). We’ve sourced a reputable independent supplier and are eager to make this much-needed investment ahead of the new season. This upgrade will significantly improve our facilities, ensuring better playing conditions and a more enjoyable experience for players and spectators alike. The support of our community is crucial in helping us secure the future of the club, and every contribution will make a lasting difference.
Community impact
Enhancing our facilities will allow us to raise the standard of cricket we offer, benefiting both players and supporters. We are committed to showcasing local talent and creating more opportunities for young people to get involved in the game. Additionally, we are dedicated to expanding opportunities for Junior, women’s and girls’ cricket, ensuring a more inclusive future for the sport.
Beyond cricket, our club has always been a hub for the community. Events like the Yellow Belly Beer Festival have become village highlights, celebrating local businesses and produce while bringing people together. We are passionate about continuing this tradition of community support, but at our core, cricket is what keeps this club alive. Without investment in the game, there is no club—so your support will help sustain not just cricket, but everything we contribute to the local community.
