Time is running out! Help the World's Scientists clearly tell world leaders at COP26 what is needed to save us from Climate Catastrophe
by Ed Gemmell in London, Greater London, United Kingdom
On the 7th October 2021 we'd raised £25,703 with 164 supporters in 56 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
We are raising funds to create a powerful new film that inspires our world leaders at COP 26 to take the bold science-led action needed to avert the crisis. The hard-hitting film will be backed up by a new world record-breaking scientific paper called “Scientists Warning into Action”.
We need your help to make this happen.
Our aim is to make this upcoming paper the most endorsed scientific paper ever by gathering over 25,000 signatures from scientists from every country in the world - breaking all world records and gaining recognition by Guinness World Records.
A universal record breaking statement issued by the World's Scientists, unfettered by politics or governments, will provide the ultimate guide to climate action. And you can be part of it.
The initial £35,000 will be used to fund the production of the film and the marketing team needed to reach scientists in every county of the World.
We have a plan to alert them to sign and support the "Scientists Warning into Action" paper and you can help us to beat our 25,000 signature target.
Our charity, Scientists Warning Europe, represents these scientists and specifically the tens of thousands of scientists who signed the three big warnings issued in 1992, 2017 and 2019.
Inspired by the likes of Greta Thunberg, the film will be uncompromising. It will leave the COP26 officials in no doubt of what is expected of them, and the record-breaking scientific paper will add extra weight to the message.
Our hard hitting film from celebrated director Jonathan Clay of Silverback Films, director of the recent David Attenborough and Johan Rockstrom film Breaking Boundaries, will stand upon the strong science-based foundations of the “Scientists Warning into Action” paper.
Further funds raised will be used to create a marketing and communications programme around this vital warning and film. We will use additional funds to ramp up the social media campaign and potentially to create a second review and "making of" film to follow the COP26 action and remind leaders of their obligation to protect us with vital action.
If funds allow, we will organise for the film and paper to be translated into as many languages as possible in order to spread the information to all leaders and peoples of the world.
Already, many top scientists are working on, or contribute to, the "Scientists Warning into Action" paper and film.
The co-ordinating authors who were both co-authors of the World Scientists Warning of a Climate Emergency in 2019 are Prof. Phoebe Barnard and Prof. Bill Moomaw.
Already offers of cooperation have been received from Prof. Bill Ripple, Prof. Chris Wolf, Prof. Bill Laurance, Dr Mahmoud Mahmoud (all co-authors of the 2017 and/or 2019 papers), Prof. Johan Rockstrom, Sir David King, Prof. Pier Vellinga, Prof. Dave Goulson, Prof. Chris Rapley OBE , Prof. Chris Rhodes, and Prof. Peter Wadhams.
Scientists Warning Europe represents the scientists of the World in driving essential urgent action on the Climate Crisis and specifically raises awareness of the three major warnings to humanity in 1992, 2017 and 2019 issued by tens of thousands of scientists.
Scientists Warning Europe is a team of passionate and dedicated volunteers led by managing director Ed Gemmell and is a registered charity in the UK with registered number 1194090.
We are a young and ambitious charity on a bold mission. Scientists Warning Europe has been active in climate education, interviewing top scientists and running several major educational and action briefing events.
SWE has been active in climate education, interviewing top scientists and running several major educational and action briefing events recently including:
SWE is run by volunteers and has a board of top scientist advisers.
Join us on our mission, help us in the fight to save the planet and preserve stability in the world, add your voice to demand massive decisive action at COP26.
We are running out of time, but we can still make a difference if we take action now.
