Dear all, thank you for taking the time to view our page!
About the London Basketball Association
The London Basketball Association is a registered charity founded in 2012 after the London Olympics. We aim to use basketball to improve lives and inspire the younger generations to take up sporting habits for life.
We provide affordable and accessible basketball programmes across London in the most deprived and disadvantaged areas, whilst ensuring the highest quality delivery. Our programmes empower individuals by increasing social competence, intellectual flexibility, emotion control and time management.
Our recent Annual Report explains how we attributed to saving society a phenomenal £25million by tackling prevelant issues such as: obesity, crime and wellbeing.
About our Campaign
After being nominated by London Sport as one of 10 organisations to join the London Sport Crowdfunding Pilot, this is our first ever crowdfunding campaign! London Sport have agreed to match fund the most innovative project and the project that raises the most. So please be a part of making history with us!
We are fundraising in order to deliver our LBA School Basketball Competitions in Westminster.
LBA provides high quality organised basketball for girls and boys of all ages, abilities and skill level within a inspirational, developmental, safe and fun environment. Last season this league engaged over 450 participants, made up of 24 schools and 35 teams.
We have been working with young people in basketball and organising events for many years now. At our School Basketball Competitions, we ensure that we create an inspriational environment where kids develop a passion for the game and sport, and friends and family can gather to watch and support.
We provide qualified referees, a camera crew, we do interviews and live stream games for everyone to watch online. We will also re-share the whole experience through our social media! Through participating in the School Basketball Competitions the young people will learn how to compete, understand the value of exercise, improve self-esteem and physical health, and gain an increased sense of achievement.
The funds raised will be used for:
The money raised will allow us to provide a league in Westminster with 100 competitive matches over the course of a whole season.
We also have a larger goal of raising £12,000 with this campaign. This will allow us to expand into two of the following interested boroughs:
(Last Season Champions | LBA College League, Pool B)

More about us and our previous work:
The LBA was accredited with the "Active Westminster Mark" in 2016, in recognition of its provision of high quality services, health and safety, coaching and insurance standards. We were also rewarded with the "London Youth Gold Mark" in 2015, as recognition of our transformational work with youth.
Our Impact: We use 2 primary platforms to monitor and evaluate our work: the Life Effectiveness Questionnaire (LEQ) and Sportworks.
LEQ: A recognised tool across Europe that measures the life skills and the extent to which a person´s actions, behaviour and feelings are effective in managing and succeeding at life. Results from the LEQ data collected from the 2015/16 LBA School Basketball Competitions were phenomenal and showed fantastic progress in our participants, with the greatest impact in the following areas:
Across all 8 measured categories, the project saw an average percentage change of 39% in participants, which translates to a very strong positive impact overall.
SPORTWORKS: We all know that sport changes lives, but as a charity, we have to prove it! That´s why the LBA decided to start using ‘Sportworks’, the pioneering impact measurement tool for the Sport for Development sector. Sportworks calculates the impact that interventions have on reducing the risk of those young people experiencing negative outcomes, and the associated cost saving to society of doing so. Sportsworks data shows that LBA has attributed to saving society over £25,000,000 in our last year!
(The above graph shows that on average we postively benefit 3-4 out of every 10 people across the 7 prolific areas in society)
