Raising funds to stop Rooley Moor being destroyed by the unnecessary Scout Moor 2 wind farm.
We are Friends of the Moorland, and we are deeply concerned about a proposal to develop a windfarm of unprecedented scale on the moors above Rochdale.
One of the most beautiful, historic, wild and unspoilt upland landscapes in Greater Manchester is about to be industrialised if we don’t act NOW.
Cubico, a commercial windfarm developer, is attempting to carve up Rooley Moor for profit. This proposal is not about responsible renewable energy, carbon reduction or environmental stewardship - it’s about money, and about making a Canadian Teachers’ Pension Fund a lot richer at our expense.
We are currently fighting tooth and nail to stop this commercial development.
Imagine the destruction of the moor with seventeen 180‑metre turbines, their massive concrete bases, and 15 km of additional service roads cut across fragile peatland. Combined with Scout Moor I, this would become the largest wind farm in England.
Our costs are beginning to mount up. We have already hired specialist consultants - including noise, heritage and peatland experts - and we now need to engage legal representation to challenge the planning process. We also need to fund printing, venue hire, outreach materials and ongoing public engagement.
Times are hard for everyone, of course, but if you’ve found a pound in the sofa or a loose fiver in your jacket, please consider donating to this Crowdfunder to help keep us fighting to force the planning authorities to reject this disastrous proposal.
ANY SURPLUS FUNDS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED TO LOCAL CAUSES
