Aim: We aim to protect the moorland and heritage assets from the harm of aggressive commercial windfarm development
We are Friends of the Moorland and are concerned about Cubico's proposals to develop a windfarm of unprecedented scale on the moors above Rochdale.
The immediate impact on deep peat, and the damage to key heritage assets comes at the sole benefit of offshore profits.
To fight the planning application, which is for turbines higher than Blackpool Tower, we need to raise money to publicise what is at risk, and commission experts to evidence the harm from this development.
Our main concerns include
- the size of the turbines, and their close proximity to dwellings (a development like this does not yet exist, and the impact is unknown - but is expected to cause health-harming noise levels)
- impact on deep peat, which once disturbed will release carbon and take thousands of years to regrow
- impact on heritage assets, including the world famous Cotton Famine Road, Waugh's Well, and the unique Prickshaw and Broadley Fold and Catley Lane Head conservation areas
