Aim

We aim to protect the moorland and heritage assets from the harm of aggressive commercial windfarm development

We are Friends of the Moorland and we are concerned about Cubico's proposals to develop a windfarm of unprecedented scale on the moors above Rochdale.

The video above shows just how much irreparable damage was done to the peatland when the meteorological mast was installed in September 2025 (which was approved by Rossendale Council despite it directly contravening their own planning policies).  Just try and imagine what scale of damage will be done with 17 turbines and their massive concrete bases.....

With the money raised so far, we have printed and distributed banners and flyers to raise awareness of the proposed development.  We have also started to engage experts to help demonstrate our concerns - including a noise consultant, who is preparing a report to show the potential impact on local residents and users of the moorland.

We need more funds to continue to raise awareness and engage with other consultants (eg heritage, hydrology, visual impact etc) to help us demonstrate why this development must be stopped.

Please go to www.saynotoscoutmoor2.org.uk to keep up to date, and find out how you can log your concerns for consideration.

The damage this development of turbines higher than Blackpool Tower will do (including to key heritage assets) comes at the sole benefit of offshore profits.

Our main concerns include

- the size of the turbines, and their close proximity to dwellings (a development like this does not yet exist, and the impact is unknown - but is expected to cause health-harming noise levels)

- impact on deep peat, which once disturbed will release carbon and take thousands of years to regrow

- impact on heritage assets, including the world famous Cotton Famine Road, Waugh's Well, and the unique Prickshaw and Broadley Fold and Catley Lane Head conservation areas
