As a community group we fought the highly successful campaign to stop the Consett Incinerator from being built in the heart of our town. BUT Project Genesis Limited have announced they will Appeal the decision. This is despite:
- DCC Planning Committee’s unanimous decision for the Consett Incinerator NOT to go ahead;
- nearly 4,000 objections to the plans made by local residents and businesses:
- the recommendation by DCC planning that this development should not go ahead.
Let’s work together as a community to show Project Genesis that WE STILL Say No to Consett Incinerator!
Some of the reasons WE SAY NO:
- Incinerators are BAD neighbours – noise, ash, traffic, vibrations, odours, litter, flies. rodents, emissions.
- Incinerators are 3 times as likely to be built in deprived neighbourhoods. WE want to IMPROVE the town…
- Property values within 3 km of current incinerators has reduced and those close by struggle to sell.
- Due to the large scale and industrial nature of this incinerator we would suffer substantial adverse and permanent visual affects:
- Incinerators harm recycling, our air quality and contribute to climate change. They will be the dirtiest form of energy production once coal is phased out.
