Fal Fishery Cooperative CIC
28th March 2020@SavingESTER & Scientific Research
As we have reached the 1st milestone we have now been switched to an “ALWAYS ON” project so you, and anyone you think might be interested, can always donate towards the next phases including: setting up the new King Harry Aquaculture Site with moorings, chains, ropes, buoys etc. then we will place the new baby native oysters (when they’ve hatched) into the growing trays and study their growth.
This is only the beginning of a 10 year journey but ESTER is definitely on the ‘river to success’
Eventually we will be looking for a pontoon, a few shipping containers to house the ‘research center and laboratory equipment’ such as microscopes and cameras etc. so we can provide facilities and collect data for Masters Degree and PhD researchers through Bangor University.
In turn this will help provide “scientific evidence” required by the regulatory authority before they can amend the management protocols of this ancient fishery and ultimately protect the native oysters from overfishing, pollution and disease that has wiped out 85-95% of the world’s populations, as well as helping to protect the marine environment habitat for future generations!
If you think you can help with any of the equipment that we are now looking for then please get in touch by emailing us direct at “[email protected]”
Finally, we have now set up ways you can follow ESTER the Cornish Native Oyster on her journey, while #SavingESTER is still active in posts, we now ask you to follow her direct @SavingESTER on most social media platforms!
Thank you!
