Help us to save the Tittybottle Oak Tree in Otley

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far!

We have amended the initial target to £3000 now - to both encourage further donations towards an achievable target and to ensure immediate legal fees incurred to date are covered with enough to address legal costs in January as needed. The trees are currently safe until 6th January. We hope this time period is one in which Leeds City Council are able to re-consider their plans regarding the tree felling.

The Thursday 26th December Wharfedale Observer (not online yet) leads with this headline:

'Plan to axe historic oak tree put on hold - Council says it 'recognises strength of feeling'.

The council say 'further information will be circulated to local communities and key stakeholders in the coming week, providing more details about the urgently required replacement works to the pedestrian footbridge and the timeline for carrying out these works.The repairs to the footway will not be delayed.'

We note however that they still plan to fell the trees. They say will seek to fence them off before 30th December when the road the trees are on also closes to traffic for more bridge tests and to 'ensure the safety of the trees' they say........
