For over 50 years, Bourne End Junior Sports Club (BEJSC) has been at the heart of our community, giving young people a place to play, grow, and belong. Today, around 350 children and young people participate in our activities, benefiting from a welcoming, accessible, and affordable space. Our building is fully wheelchair accessible, with low-cost activities and a bursary scheme to ensure everyone can take part.
“BEJSC has been wonderful. My eldest has been able to access sports and social settings that her disability would have normally made either impossible or extremely difficult.”
Despite our strong local support, led entirely by volunteers—many of whom were club members as children—our sports hall is now at risk. The energy crisis has made heating the building unaffordable, and the aging heating and hot water systems are reaching the end of their lifespan. Without urgent investment, the future of the club is uncertain.
We’ve already taken major steps to secure BEJSC’s future. We’ve been awarded a £159,336 capital grant from the government’s Community Ownership Fund (COF), alongside additional funding to help us manage the transition. These funds will allow us to:
✅ Insulate the building to improve energy efficiency.
✅ Upgrade heating and hot water systems for long-term sustainability.
✅ Make essential improvements to secure the club’s future.
However, this funding is not guaranteed—we can only access it if we raise £39,834 in match funding. Thanks to a £32,000 grant from Wooburn & Bourne End Parish Council, we now need to raise the final amount—and that’s where you come in.
By investing in this Community Share Offer, you’ll help us unlock the COF funding, secure BEJSC’s future, and invest in LED lighting, solar panels, battery storage, and EV chargers to make our building energy-efficient and sustainable.
Our target is £30,000, ensuring we meet the match funding requirements and can start work quickly. Our minimum goal of £20,000 will still allow us to claim the grant, but may limit the scope of improvements. A higher total will provide additional funds to cover cost increases and allow further building enhancements.
“(BEJSC) could be the heart of the community if the building was fit for purpose.”
