‘We need space to be free, a space to just grow, a space to evolve,
We need a space to let go, a space we all know, a space to call home’.
After six years without a permanent home, Young Women's Music Project (YWMP) has finally been offered a safe space to make our own, but we need help to secure it!
YWMP has been providing a vital safe and supportive environment for girls and young women aged between 14-21 to make music, learn new skills, and creatively express themselves since 2000. Many of the young people we support come from disadvantaged and vulnerable backgrounds, and securing a safe and reliable space for the group to meet is critical to ensuring the project can continue to provide a trusted community resource.
We need to raise £15,000 to secure the unit we’ve been offered by new workspace and community hub Makespace, the pressure is on to raise funds to sound-proof the space and cover the initial rent. The money raised will also pay for three of the young women who are training in visual arts and interior design to plan, create and build the interior and furniture with a professional mentor.
We’re calling on everyone who believes in safe spaces for women and girls, accessible education, a fairer music industry, a passion for ensuring opportunities young people in Oxfordshire, and in the power of art to transform lives to help make this a reality.
By donating to #SaveYWMP, you won’t just be helping establish Oxfordshire’s first youth-led music space, but you’ll also get some bespoke and limited edition merchandise – from badges and bags to t-shirts and tickets.
