We're fighting back against threats to human rights in the UK.
The Government is trying to rip up human rights protections and put themselves above the law.
Under its Refugee Ban Bill, people could be stopped from appealing to their human rights in asylum claims, based on how they came to the UK. This means Home Secretary Suella Braverman could deport thousands, endangering lives and playing into the hands of traffickers.
In other words, it allows the Government to commit human rights abuses without consequences.
This is incredibly dangerous because it strikes at the heart of what human rights are.
As soon as someone starts picking and choosing who deserves rights and who doesn’t, the very concept of human rights is under threat. Either we all have human rights, or no one does.
Supported by friends in the media, ministers like Home Secretary Suella Braverman are not telling the truth about human rights.
They want the public to believe that human rights are not for them, but only for those who have done something wrong.
This is totally untrue. Human rights are for everyone, and they enable everyone to get justice when they are mistreated.
We cannot let the Government tear apart the protections that have given us so much. We must tell the true story of human rights and why they matter.
We will run a big public facing campaign, to change the conversation around human rights in the UK.
We will:
Together we will bring the truth about human rights to millions of people around the UK.
We know it works. Campaigners can win people over by appealing to shared values of tolerance, justice and fairness.
The British public wants to see human rights protected. Our polling has shown that half of the public are very concerned about the weaking of human rights in Britain. Three quarters of people believe authorities must respect everyone’s rights.
This is a huge challenge and we cannot afford to wait.
We need your help.
This is a bold, new campaign that will break new ground and win new support for human rights. It goes beyond the comfort zone and outside the echo chamber.
To pull this off, we need support from people like you who already understand the critical importance of our rights.
Please donate now.
