Oban | Scotland
The View in Oban, on Scotland's west coast, is part of a national initiative launched by Music Venue Trust to prevent the closure of hundreds of independent music venues.
Oban's Live Music Trail
Our rural venue is at the heart of our town's 'live music trail' as it is the ONLY grassroots music venue, ceilidh house, nightclub and event space used to by our local community to support groups, causes and businesses.
Our venue is an Oban institution. For decades, it has showcased the very best talent from traditional Scottish, Celtic and contemporary music and culture. We have also hosted hundreds of wedding dances.
Between 2008-2018, it was called Skipinnish Ceilidh House, after the owners band which has gone onto fill much larger venues since handing over the keys.
The View has also been the 'Official After Party' venue for Oban Live, Argyll's largest music festival and we look forward to partying again in years to come, including being at the heart of The Royal National Mod when it returns home in 2023.
Fundraising
We face closure because we are unable to access the full £25,000 grant available through the Government's Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Fund and our insurance claim for loss of income is likely to be refused as per the vast majority of cases.
Your donations will be used to help us contribute towards our financial obligations whilst we are closed, including additional costs associated with furloughing our excellent staff who make our venue what it is.
If we hit our target, and we can prevent the closure of our venue, everything above the amount we need will be donated to the Music Venue Trust GMV Crisis Fund to protect other venues just like ours, right across the country.
Thanks, and please take care!
