We're still collecting donations

On the 13th November 2020 we'd raised £17,047 with 143 supporters in 201 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

 New stretch target

We are working towards the London Mayor's #PayItForward scheme. If we can raise £5,000 of this new stretch target, our amazing London Mayor will be able to match that fund with a generous donation of £5,000. We are looking for your help!

We are working on two venues. The Sound Lounge in Morden has just opened for live music. The music events are run within full covid safety guidelines. We are determined to continue offering culture however our capacity has been reduced from 250 to just 47. We are doing what we can even though to open is to run at a loss.

We are continuing to work on The Sound Lounge in Sutton. We are partnering with Social Enterprise Volunteer It Yourself (VIY) who support young people not in employment, education or training, to achieve their City & Guilds accreditation whilst accessing mentoring and gaining experience in the labouring trade.

Dear All,

Thank you so much for supporting our venue and helping to keep us safe in the most horrendous circumstances. We have received cultural recovery funding from the Arts Council England on behalf of HM Treasury DCMS (Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport) and we are therefore safe until the end of March 2021. For that reason we are closing our crowdfunder and getting on with the business of delivering culture!

In the meantime there remain 30 venues across the UK at imminent risk of permanent closure. A campaign has been launched #SaveThe30 and we will be getting behind that campaign because we want to protect the cultural sector and ensure that every venue can open safely.

Thank you again for holding us when we needed it. We look forward to seeing and thanking you in person when we are safe and allowed to do so.

Much love,

Hannah, Keiron and everyone at The Sound Lounge x

Our Story:
The Sound Lounge's enforced closure at Morden and subsequent disruption to the Sutton site because of Covid19 has placed our future at risk. Funding streams which we were relying on have been cut and the high street itself will be changed once this is over as people come together in different ways and certainly with more caution.

We have decided to launch a crowdfunder campaign (as part of a national initiative launched by Music Venue Trust to prevent the closure of hundreds of independent music venues). The money we are raising is to literally keep us afloat and make sure we can still proceed with our project even if the landscape post Covid19 is a very different one.

Grassroots music venues, arts centres and community spaces like ours are critical to our cultural scene in this country. Without places like ours there are no opportunities for artists to hone their craft, to become the true performers and the greats of tomorrow. And equally as important is our role in our local community. The Sound Lounge runs workshops & accredited training in sound engineering, music making and barista & food sessions for local people suffering from disadvantage. We also provide volunteering opportunities and support the delivery of off-site local music and arts projects.

If we hit our target, and we can prevent the closure of our venue, everything above the amount we need will be donated to the Music Venue Trust GMV Crisis Fund to protect other venues just like ours, right across the country. #SaveOurVenues
