Spiritual Bar and Records is a live music venue, record label and music community based in Camden. After 10 years of bringing people together in Camden and supporting independent musicians in their own career (Ferris and Sylvester, Jade Bird, Jack Broadbent among many others), Spiritual Bar and its music community are now at a crucial turning point.
We thrive on engagement between audiences and artists, which is something we have been longing for during COVID-19. It has become impossible for us to reopen safely since March. This has had a substantial impact on the business, so we are asking you to help us to keep the music alive. Since we don't know how long this is going to continue, we are asking for financial help to keep the bar afloat during this crisis. We did apply for both grants from the Arts Council but unfortunately received no funding.
We will be providing live streaming performances straight to your houses every night we can, at http://shorturl.at/fyTV1 . All we ask for is the equivalent of a drink at the bar for all of you to connect and watch.
Share this with your friends, with everyone that has been to the bar and loved it and help us keep the music alive!
Big Love, Spiritual Bar and Spiritual Records Team.
Spiritual Bar & Records is a classic example of a grassroots music venue, which primarily survives on month to month, programming high quality content with limited resources. The economics of running a music venue in London are challenging due to high rent, staffing and associated costs; the venue has been built up over years with a patchwork of improvements. This funding avenue has come at an imperative time for our business. Despite our continuous rise in popularity within Greater London and worldwide, the current closures have had serious adverse effects on our revenue.
These vital donations will go towards general costs which have accrued during this lockdown period. These donations will essentially keep us alive for our rent, closed-running costs, balance out accounts with our suppliers and complete necessary bar and performance space maintenance. With these donations, we hope to be able to reopen on top of all of our finances with the ability to welcome in new musicians as well as continue to showcase our resident musicians. We have a duty to all musicians who play to back up their hard work and artistry with facilities that enable the best show possible.
For ten years, Spiritual Bar and Records has grown into the epicenter for blues, folk and alternative music within the Camden community.
We provide a vital, safe and uplifting environment for artists to hone and build their craft and showcase inclusive, diverse events. Spiritual is a cherished resource in the local community and the music industry as a trusted performance space for new talent. A center for folk, blues and soul music in the current Camden climate is niche and the music that one experiences within the bar space is unique compared to large, mainstream venues. People from all over the world can interact with other artists and still feel at home.
During the last 8 months, Music Venue Trust and Crowdfunder have worked together to prevent the closure of hundreds of grassroots music venues. With no end to the crisis in sight, we are now refocusing that work to spotlight those venues under most imminent threat of permanent closure. The #SaveOurVenues Red List highlights the grassroots music venues at most risk.
Right now.
We’ve checked all the available funding, financial support, furlough schemes, business support for these venues, and what is on offer is not enough to prevent them being lost. These 32 venues are on the Critical List and need your help.
These grassroots venues play a crucial role in the development of British music, nurturing local talent, providing a platform for artists to build their careers and develop their music and their performance skills. These venues also play a vital role in the cultural and economic vibrancy of any village, town or city.
