We’re part of a national initiative launched by Theatres Trust to enable us to hold a virtual bucket shake to raise much needed funds.
by Seaton Delaval Arts Centre in Seaton Delaval, England, United Kingdom
Like theatres across the UK, due to coronavirus our doors have been shut since March 2020. We've had to cancel so many performances, shows and events along with our community groups who use venue week in week out. We've had none of our usual income coming in, but our outgoings remain the same.
Christmas is such an important and busy time for us. Our annual pantomime brings the whole community together for some festive family fun. We're so sad to have had to cancel this years production due to the pandemic, with our venue remaining closed over the festive season.
As a result we're facing a big loss of income from ticket sales for our biggest show of the year, merchandise, programmes, sweets and so much more. This is why we’d like to invite you to take part in a Virtual Bucket Collection this panto season.
We know times are tough for everyone at the moment. But anything you can give to help keep our theatre ticking over whilst the doors are closed is incredible, no matter how big or small. As a registered charity every penny that comes in goes towards the ongoing redevelopment of the building and to keep it open for future generations to enjoy.
We've put together a range of rewards from you to choose from. Also every donation will be entered into a prize draw with a chance to win a family ticket for our next pantomime, a bottle of spirit, a bottle of wine and some chocolates!
The Seaton Delaval Arts Centre is located at the heart of our small village and is a community hub for the arts and so much more. Ran by a small team of dedicated volunteers with no paid members of staff, the venue is used for a number of different uses including regular shows and performances, weekly fitness and sports classes, coffee mornings and a range of other events to bring the community together. Through our Pantomime Society we also give the opportunity for young and old to take part in amateur theatre both on stage and off through musicals, cabarets and our popular Christmas Pantomime which normally entertains over 1000+ local residents at family friendly prices.
In villages, towns and cities across the country, theatres are at the heart of their community. Places to come together, to be inspired and be entertained. Theatres are where our best-loved actors learn their craft and thousands of others learn valuable skills.
But we risk losing this forever.
Theatres saw their main source of income disappear in an instant when they closed in March in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
We still don’t know when they will be able to reopen fully. This ongoing uncertainty puts theatres in a perilous situation. The government’s bailout is spread across all cultural organisations and certainly won’t be enough to save all of the UK’s theatres.
Every day theatres are facing the tough decision to make staff redundant and to close their doors until next year. And there is a real risk that those closures could be permanent.
Without urgent support, we could lose our nation’s amazing theatres. Please help us to make sure our theatres survive this crisis and will be there to be enjoyed by future generations.
