Beaconsfield urgently needs your support to remain in its central London building. Without immediate help, we will have to close our doors within weeks. So, this is a direct appeal to artists, audiences, neighbours and friends whose lives have been touched by our organisation and its community – as participant or visitor – and to those who think that independent culture in the UK is important.

The need

We need to raise funds to cover rent and essential core costs so that Beaconsfield can stay open and independent, led by artists into a new phase of pioneering contemporary art projects.

A commitment of £60 from 600 like-minded supporters would raise £36,000 — enough to help keep our unique art space open for six months and give us breathing space to raise further funds.

Why your support matters

Beaconsfield is one of London’s longest running artist-led spaces: now in its 31st year in the historic former Lambeth Ragged School. As an independent artist initiative and registered charity, and with no fixed state funding, every programme, exhibition, workshop and day in the building depends on money we raise from a variety of sources: individuals and companies, as well as from public funding bodies, trusts and foundations.

Sustain

In the current climate, we are no longer sustainable without ground-level support from people who believe that independent cultural spaces must continue to exist in the UK and beyond. With your help, we aim to continue our work until the end of our lease in 2030.

In 2026-2028 our small team with big ideas is poised to support at least nine artists, commissioned to develop, exhibit and share their work, and deliver workshops for children and young people with SEND, as well as enthusiasts like yourselves who are nurtured to develop personal creativity by engaging with skilled professionals.

This is now an emergency, and we will have to close without your immediate action.
