Save Windmill (Toft) Wood

Aim

We are aiming to raise the funds necessary to purchase a 35 acre woodland and safeguard it for the local community as a public open space.

Windmill (or Toft) Wood is a 35 acre woodland just outside Knutsford in the parish of Ollerton. It is traversed by two public rights of way and, whilst privately owned, is a much loved woodland.

The woodland has been put up for sale by auction on 23rd August. This presents an opportunity for the community to raise the funds and make Windmill Wood as a real, permanent community asset.

We don't know what a potential owner would do with the woodland but it is likely that the level of public access enjoyed over recent years would be curtailed. 

Our aim is to set up a charity (the Windmill Wood Trust) to own the woodland. It will then be a community asset for generations. The new charity would then secure grants and fundraise to undertake the continued maintenance of the woodland. Over time, we would enhance the ecology of the wood and make it an even more special place for those who enjoy it.

If we do not secure £200k, or if we do and are not successful in buying the wood, then you will receive a full refund of your contribution.
