If we can raise more money we will use it to increase our resilience and improve the facilities. For example we have been offered the opportunity of a 40% grant to reduce our carbon emissions, save running costs and make the Whitworth more sustainable. Extra money raised could allow us to access this grant to change lighting to efficient LED lighting and improve heating in the building as well as other building improvement works.
Due to COVID-19 the Whitworth Centre has been forced to close for the foreseeable future. This means that the Centre will not make any money from the cafe, events and room hire and could struggle to survive.
The Whitworth Centre is a Charitable Trust dependent on the support of local people. Every penny that comes from room hire, the sale of an ice cream, a coffee in the cafe and parking tickets is reinvested in the building and park. Being an old, listed heritage building with large beautiful park, it costs a lot of money to run.
Without any income the centre could go bankrupt before the Centre is permitted to reopen. If this happens, this community asset could be lost forever, including
- Playground facilities and skate park
- Football pitches
- Croquet and bowls
- Open spaces to walk the dog, take a picnic or meet friends.
- Whitworth Thread, Children's clubs, cycle training
- Cafe
- Community events
- Lots of local clubs
- Table tennis, snooker or badminton
- Parties, weddings and much more...
Have you and your family enjoyed using these facilities and would you like to see them stay as a community asset for future generations?
If every resident in Darley Dale gifted £5 this would help the Centre survive for the future. How about making a family gift?
Please give generously.
