Aim
We are raising funds to hire a planning consultant who will prepare a comprehensive and strong objection to the owners' application.
Friends of The Bell, Benington
We are a community group dedicated to preserving The Bell Public House in Benington, Hertfordshire.
Although we have successfully secured an Asset of Community Value (ACV) for The Bell, the owners have now submitted a planning application to convert the pub into a private residence. To properly challenge this application, we need to raise funds to hire a professional planning consultant who can submit a strong and detailed objection on our behalf.
The Bell has been a public house for over 400 years and is Grade II listed* due to its historic significance, including a hunt scene painting over the fireplace dating back to around 1640. It has also been the beating heart of our village, serving as the central meeting point for generations of villagers. Before its closure, The Bell was a welcoming space for people from all walks of life to gather for drinks and food. It was particularly important for the elderly and those who were isolated, as there are few other opportunities for social interaction in the area.
We are committed to saving this historic and vital community space, not only for the current generation but for those that follow.
