Following 50% cuts to parks budgets in 2016, Lambeth Council stopped funding Streatham Common’s very popular Paddling Pool which would have closed without funding from The John Horseman Trust and your support. Since then we've raised a further £10,000 locally so the Streatham Common Co-operative could manage the Paddling Pool and open it as usual.
When we surveyed the local community, 90% said they felt it was important that the paddling pool stays open, with £1,000's of pledges and dozens of offers of volunteers to help with the project.
To fund and open the pool for summer 2018 we need you to help us reach our target of £5000. If we raise this then we along with previous fundraising and support from Lambeth Council (for the utility bills and water testing), we will cover the full costs to enable us to open it again this season.
If we beat our target or any money is left over, it will go towards next seasons's costs.
The Streatham Common Co-operative is a community run social enterprise managing Streatham Rookery. Many people know us as 'SCCoop'. We were the first community group in Lambeth to take over direct responsibility for a Lambeth Park.
Streatham Common’s Paddling Pool was built in 1938. It is located near the car park. There are picnic tables on the grassy area around the pool, which is enclosed and accessible through a gate, which makes it a safer area for very young children. It is free to use and very popular on sunny days for families with young children.
With your support, we can reach the target and keep this valuable community facility open for everyone again this year.
And this year, we're giving all supporters a free badge! Just pick yours up from the Rookery Cafe in May.
