Help protect Scottish Peatlands by pledging your support today. Without urgent funding our conservation work here will not continue.
Scotland’s precious peatlands are under threat. These undervalued bogs provide flood prevention and carbon storage, as well as being home to an unique range of biodiversity, but they are used as dumps, damaged by drainage and stripped for garden use.
80% of UK’s bogs are damaged and have stopped forming peat.
Our team of volunteers, known as the Bog Squad, have been working hard to reverse the damage caused to our peatlands. Over the last two years they have installed over 100 dams on 13 sites with nearly 100 volunteers on 30 work parties, and run 15 events and training days.
But the funding for their work has now run out.
Without urgent funding this work will not continue.
The Large Heath, Britain’s only peatland specialist butterfly, has suffered massive declines mainly due to habitat loss. Many other butterflies and moths rely on the woodlands that fringe lowland bogs, including the Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary, Green Hairstreak and Lunar Hornet moth.
The Bog Squad’s work is already making a difference to Scotland’s peatlands, but we need your help to carry on this vital work.
What can I do?
Government funding for the project has ended. Your donation can help the project continue and ensure Scotland’s peatlands, and the wildlife it supports, will not be lost.

Butterflies respond quickly to change, revealing the health of the countryside - when we protect them, all wildlife benefits. This project will not only protect butterflies and moths it will help a wide range of wildlife such as Snipe and dragonflies, as well as specialised flora such as Bog Rosemary and Cranberry.
