Employing a barrister and other experts to act for us at the appeal hearing

Aim: REDHILL IS UNDER THREAT - DEVELOPERS PLAN TOWER BLOCKS UP TO 15 STORIES HIGH.WE'RE RAISING FUNDS TO FIGHT BACK. ACT NOW!

HELP US OPPOSE THE SOLUM APPEAL – SUPPORT RRAG TODAY
 SAVE REDHILL FROM UNSUSTAINABLE OVERDEVELOPMENT

We’re facing a critical moment. Solum’s appeal against the Council’s refusal of their damaging development proposal will go to a formal Planning Appeal Inquiry starting on September 2nd, 2025.

R.R.A.G. (Redhill Residents Action Group), supported by The Reigate and Redhill Society, needs your help to fund legal advice, representation and expert witnesses. While Reigate and Banstead Council is defending its decision, having our own planning and legal experts ensures our community's voice is fully heard against well-funded developers who will have a top level barrister and team of experts.

We’ve taken planning and legal advice and to give the community a voice backed by professional support it involves serious preparation and cost. To pay for this we need to raise funds and quickly.

WHERE YOUR DONATION WILL GO:

  • Planning Consultant and Legal Advice- Initial strategy and representation to respond effectively to Solum’s case. Early consultations are expected to cost £10,000. Full representation is likely to cost around £15,000+
  • Specialist Planning Barrister:- we are entitled to be represented at the inquiry. To do this properly, we hope to brief a barrister with experience in planning appeals. Full representation, including preparation and appearances, will cost over £12,000.

This is our opportunity to present facts, evidence and the voices of local people clearly and professionally. Your support can help level the field and ensure this appeal is robustly opposed and helps us make the strongest possible case

Over 2,000 local people (residents and rail users) submitted objections to this development.

  • If every person who objected gave us just £5, we’d raise £10,000
  • £10 each =£20,000
  • £20 each = £40,000 – enough to hire top level experts

Every single donation will go directly to legal and planning professionals; expert reports to counter the developer’s claims and presentation of our case at the Planning Inquiry.

Time is short – the appeal hearing is in early September

We need to raise funds as soon as possible to secure expert help

Please donate today and share this appeal with neighbours and friends.

Together we can protect our community from inappropriate development.

WHO WE ARE:

We are a coalition of East Surrey residents, local groups, and The Reigate and Redhill Society, united to protect and improve the future of Redhill town centre.

Solum, a corporate developer, is appealing a planning application that was rejected - and with good reason. Their proposal threatens to irreversibly damage the character, safety, and sustainability of our community.

WHAT'S BEING PROPOSED?

Solum wants to build a dense cluster of five tower blocks—up to 15 storeys high—on the Redhill station forecourt and car park, at the main entrance on Princess Way (A23), directly opposite the bus station. There will be no vehicle access because the buildings will extend to the road. The 255 small flats and studios are not family-friendly and none of them will be affordable.  The scale and denseness is unprecedented and far exceeds existing buildings, creating a wall of high-rise blocks that will permanently change the face of our town and our community.

To make space for this development, Solum plans to relocate the station’s vehicle entrance (for drop off and pick up, taxis, disabled parking) from its current large, safe, visible and accessible location on the A23 to the rear of the station, away from the town centre. Vehicles for the station will be forced up  Redstone Hill, to cross heavy traffic. The new access point is unsafe on a two-way road that is already prone to traffic gridlock and on a dangerous bend. This change undermines Redhill’s role as a vital transport hub and puts local heritage at risk.

WE NEED YOUR HELP - AND FAST!

The appeal hearing starts on 2nd September. To mount a strong, expert led defence, we urgently need to raise:

• £5,000 by June 16th to secure professional planning advice;

• We then expect to need a further £5000 -£7,000 by the end of July for legal counsel and technical reports on traffic, environment, and housing need;

• We may need thousands more by the end of August if we appoint a barrister to represent our community at the appeal.

Your donation will help us ensure this deeply flawed plan is properly challenged and community voices are heard.

R.R.A.G. THANKS YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
