New stretch target

Everything raised on this project will be given to the rugby club to enable it, to continue with all the great things it provides the local community

My names Gavin Drewry and on behalf of Heslam Park and the Scunthorpe Rugby Club members, I’m raising money with others to help ‘Save Our Club’.

Heslam Park, the home of Scunthorpe Rugby Union, Scunthorpe Town Cricket and most recently for the first time ever, CDF Republic of Heslam Football team needs our help to battle through these unprecedented times.  With monthly running costs of over £4,000, the latest lockdown is a huge blow to the place many of us call home and can only survive in the current climate if we give something back.

Heslam is close to many hearts and pivotal to the sporting community.  Rugby alone boasts over 400 players including 12 mini/junior teams, 4 senior teams and a girls / ladies section.  However, it’s not just a place for sport…….I’m sure most will have attended Scunthorpe’s biggest bonfire night in the past and ‘Team Heslam’ have worked tirelessly to host an array of enjoyable social events for the local community which will be bigger and better than ever when we bounce back.

The club is also leading the way in community mental health with the ‘tackling it together’ initiative, a new wellbeing suite, and the provision of mental health first aid courses to support the kids and each other.

 So here goes……..

Teams from within the rugby section made up of players from as young as 6, parents, coaches and managers will battle it out between now and Christmas in the ‘race to the North Pole and beyond’ in a bid to support Heslam Park and the section.

We will brave the conditions ahead to walk, run and cycle in the morning, at noon and night to collectively rack up the miles against the other teams.  But don’t think it stops there, along the way we will be set gruelling challenges that will make anyone quiver……..the North Pole (over 2,500 miles away) is just the first stop and a chilling challenge awaits.

Some of the parents involved in this challenge have played at the club for over 30 years.  They started playing because their fathers did, maybe even their grandfathers and today they are coaching their own children amongst many others.  Some players have been with us from the age of 4, some are brand new, mum’s are team managers and other parents first aiders………everything we do is voluntary because we are one big family that everyone is welcome to be a part of.

There’s no place like Heslam………Heslam is our home!

 Let’s go………..
