This building has been given a new lease of life in recent years. Taking it from a derelict former nightclub to a thriving community asset.
From its early days in 1900 as a ballroom and roller rink, it was an important meeting place for the community.
It had its heyday as a nightclub, from 1980's to the 2000's, then fell into disrepair and lay vacant for years.
It was saved by a dedicated group of local residents to currently serve as a busy and important meeting place for well-being groups.
Current groups that use the building include: Croeso Shed, Community Coffee shop, Men United (Mental well being group), Her Journey Unknown (Ladies Support group), Expression Hair (Community Hairdresser), Massage Therapy, Community Prom dress/suit hire, Yoga, Sound Healing, Music clubs, Community gardening, and many more.
and a successful martial arts academy.
This building is now up for sale by the private owner and the groups using the building have an uncertain future.
The community group Hwb Lles Pontardawe that currently rent and maintain the building are trying to raise funds to purchase it, so that its community use and the area it sits in can be protected and saved as a local asset.
Our vision is to celebrate the history of this building, to further develop it as a community hub for all ages and abilities, to aid the development of the martial arts academy, and to protect it as a mental and physical well-being centre.
The funds raised will go toward securing the purchase of the building, and to further develop and support the community and well-being groups that use the building.
£250,000 is the price that the property is being auctioned for. Together with the funds from this Crowdfunder page we are also raising funds from within the hub and companies who are sponsoring Mamas Academy. Any donations received will be refunded if we do not acquire enough to purchase the building.
