We are raising funds for our campaign to save Mortimer Terrace Nature Reserve and buy this site for the community

by Jeanne Pendrill in London, Greater London, United Kingdom

 New stretch target

Our plan was to raise enough funds so that Camden will match fund and help us buy the site for the community. In the end the price went up so high we knew we could never reach it. So Camden have stepped in and used CIL money to complete the purchase.

The nature reserve has also been neglected for many years by the current and previous owners so these funds will now go towards maintaining the trees and carrying out emergency repairs to the site.

Thanks to you we did it! Thanks so much to all our supporters out there. The Council have now stepped in added the necessary funds to be able to successfully purchas the nature reserve on behalf of the community! The completion was finalised on Friday 29th April. Thank you so much for your support!

We are the trustees of Mortimer Terrace Nature Reserve.

Managed by the local community since 1987.
Our very own local hero, Jeanne Pendrill, has managed the site for over 30 years, for a time together with the London Wildlife Trust. Thanks to Jeanne’s hard work and an army of volunteers, the site has always been open to the community and local schools, clubs and groups. They have all had regular use of the site, always accessible, always free.

The site is an Asset of Community Value and one of the most protected sites in our borough so it can't and shouldn't be built on. Originally established by a covenant in the late 19th century, the land is designated to protect nearby residences from the pollution and was not be built on 'in perpetuity'. Today it is a  Grade One Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC), it is featured in the Dartmouth Park Neighbourhood Forum Local Plan as a designated green space. The  local plan was adopted via referendum in 2019. The reserve also has a rare Camden Woodland Tree Preservation Order, meaning not just one tree is protected but ALL trees.

Now we need your support to continue our campaign and buy this site for the community and Save Our Nature Reserve!
