Many of you will be familiar with the long running issue of Jesmond Wood in Highcliffe.

After eleven of years of attempting to win planning permission to build houses on the woodland, the landowner/developer has  given up.

This follows refusal after refusal by BCP Council and appeal dismissals by the Planning Inspectorate.

The land has been put for auction on October 14 with a guide price of £500k-£700k. Please see link below:

This is a large sum of money.Highcliffe and Walkford Parish Council is already heading up efforts to raise enough money to put in a realistic bid, so that we can keep the woodland safe in the hands of the community.

There is a substantial sum in the fund already but is not enough. More is being sought by our local councillors from a number of official sources.

However,  the community can play its part, as it has done in the past eleven years.

This crowdfunder is our chance to take direct and positive action.

By raising as much money as we can we may be able to contribute towards the purchase of the Woodland. The owner may take an offer.

Every contribution, large or small, brings us closer to saving this irreplaceable part of our local environment and heritage.

Together, we can stop any further development proposals by purchasing the land, and preserving the woodland as a sanctuary for generations to come.

Please remember this is not just about Jesmond. The woodland is a vital part of Highcliffe’s unique green, environmental, ecological, and wildlife corridor, protected as such a number of planning policies. It is also identified by Natural England as Priority Habitat in its national listings.
