Some things are worth fighting for

Imagine a place in the heart of our town where you can enjoy a coffee beneath the shade of the courtyard magnolia tree, take a yoga class beneath the impressive beams of the west barn, bring your children for a creative workshop in the snug, bump into your neighbours, and feel immense pride in something beautiful on your doorstep.

A cosy café. Creative workshops. A gallery and event space. A garden for little ones to play. Therapy and 121 wellbeing rooms. Office space to hire. Artists in residence. Much needed studio space for local creatives.

A place where people of all ages can gather, create, learn and belong.

Hemel Hempstead doesn't have anywhere quite like this. Heath Barn can be that place.

We have until Early June 2026.

Hertfordshire County Council has given Our Heath Barn CIC an exclusive window to raise funds and prove that Boxmoor, Hemel Hempstead wants this building kept for the benefit of their community.

If we don't raise enough, it goes to the open market and could be converted to private housing, lost to this community for good.

This is our moment.

What is Heath Barn?

Heath Barn is a beautiful Grade II listed building in the heart of Boxmoor, a 500-year-old gathering place that has served this community as a farm, a music school, a wedding venue and a home for generations of local families.

It has stood empty since 2019. And is now at risk of being lost to private development forever.

What does your donation do?

Every pound goes directly towards our community bid. Every donation, however small, is recorded as evidence of community support, which is exactly what Hertfordshire County Council needs to see.

You are not just giving money. You are casting a vote of confidence for what this community deserves.

We are also applying for heritage funding through the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Architectural Heritage Fund to support renovation costs.

Keen to invest a little more? Those of you interested in giving £100+, (close to 140 people have already done this) please read this bit first....

We are establishing a Community share offer through a Community Benefit Society (a form of Co-operative) that will allow local people to invest from as little as £100 to become founding members of Heath Barn, with a real vote in how the building is run for generations to come.

To Register your interest, click here: Become a Co-owner

There is also the option to give to the crowd funder and invest via the co-op scheme.

Who's behind this?

Our Heath Barn CIC was founded by local resident Lisa Timms, supported by a heritage architect, a heritage surveyor and a heritage expert, as well as local councillors and now over 400 community supporters.

In June 2025, Heath Barn was added to the SAVE Britain's Heritage Buildings at Risk register.

This is real. We are ready. We just need YOU!

Every donation, every share, every conversation brings Heath Barn closer to the community it was always meant to serve.

Thank you,

Lisa and the Our Heath Barn CIC team

Please note:

We have chosen the Crowdfunder option that allows us to keep any funds raised, regardless of whether we reach our target. We, of course, hope that Hertfordshire County Council will accept our bid, so we may utilised the funds specifically as intended (either to assist in the buildings purchase or development/ renovation works.) It will be ring fenced for this specific purpose until it becomes clear that our proposal cannot possibly go ahead ie. a sale has been accepted with another party. If this becomes the case, we will then utilise funds to run various events and experiences within the community and in our scope as a CIC. If at a later time it is decided the CIC will dissolve, any remaining funds will be distributed to other local organisations with a similar focus on community, wellbeing, and the arts. This would be facilitated in a democratic way.

Please email [email protected] if you have any questions regarding this.
