Help stop this beautiful landscape from being destroyed by a golf course.
Coul Links, an unspoilt dune system wilderness, lies in East Sutherland and is home to an astonishing variety of rare wildlife. But, plans to build a golf course on this precious landscape will destroy much needed habitats and threaten the butterflies, moths and other species that live there.

This site supports one of the largest colonies of Northern Brown Argus butterfly in the UK. It also provides shelter to a variety of rare butterflies and moths, including the Small Blue, Portland Moth and Lyme Grass moth and is home to a wide range of other threatened plants and animals including Cuckoo, Fonseca’s seed fly and Juniper.
Following a campaign by locals and environmental groups, including Butterfly Conservation, the planning application for the golf course will be examined at a Public Inquiry that begins on 26 February 2019 and will run for three to four weeks.
We urgently need your help to make the strongest possible case to protect Coul Links.
As part of the Coul Links Conservation Coalition, we will be giving evidence on the importance of the dunes for butterflies and moths, alongside our partner organisations. We will need to contribute to the legal costs for the overall case for the Coalition. Preparing our case for this takes up a huge amount of time and resources, and the Public Inquiry date is now only four weeks away.

This site is protected on an international, European and UK level and we cannot allow it to be lost. US President Donald Trump’s golf course near Aberdeen has damaged the ‘protected’ sand dunes so much that they will lose their conservation status. We must ensure this does not happen to Coul Links.
Dr Mark Young, a retired Zoology lecturer from Aberdeen University, ex trustee of Butterfly Conservation and author of over 200 research papers will present evidence on our behalf, we need your help to ensure we have the strongest possible case to present at the four-week inquiry.
If we lose this fight it sets a dangerous precedent, and no site is safe. Please donate today, to protect Coul Links and other sites that provide much needed sanctuary for our wildlife.
The Coul Links Conservation Coalition consists of seven organisations working to save this internationally important site: Butterfly Conservation, Buglife, Marine Conservation Society, National Trust for Scotland, Plantlife, RSPB, and Scottish Wildlife Trust. The Coalition is also working closely with the local campaign ‘Not Coul’.
