Aim

BlocFit is Brixton's independent bouldering gym and it won't survive 2026 without your help

BlocFit is at a turning point.

Rising costs, a tough economic climate and the expansion of venture capital-backed climbing chains mean our current business model is no longer sustainable. Without change, BlocFit will not exist in 2027.

That's why we're raising £10,000 to move BlocFit into a new era as a Community Interest Company and secure its future.

For over a decade, founder Dave Culver has built more than a climbing wall. BlocFit has become a home for climbers, a hub for Brixton and a place where people, not profit, have always come first. Becoming a CIC makes that official. Instead of serving shareholders, BlocFit will exist to serve its community, with every pound reinvested into the wall, its members and the future of independent community climbing.

Why we need £10,000

The past few years have seen the closure of many well-loved independent businesses and even though climbing is growing massively in popularity, few of the profits are making their way to the people who really care about the sport. We believe the sustainable future of this wall and other small businesses lies in the community playing a more active role rather than selling out and becoming owned by banks and big corporations.

The £10,000 buys us the time we need and without it BlocFit closes at the end of 2026.

The first £3,500 allows us to clear immediate costs that threaten closure today.

The next £1,500 is designated for improvements to the wall that will make a substantial improvement to the gym in the short-term. These are:

1) A shower for our sauna area. At the moment you have to walk through the gym between sauna and shower and we acknowledge that folk hangboarding could throw off your zen.

2) A new carpet for London’s steepest wall. The 70 degree board carpet is a bit too BlocFit at the moment and could do with a reset.

The remaining £5,000 helps cover existing monthly losses whilst we migrate to becoming a CIC. At this point we reduce our running costs substantially becoming sustainable and can focus on new projects to embed the wall even further in the community.

Alongside the new CIC structure, our members will play a bigger role in shaping BlocFit's future by helping with events, maintenance, marketing and community projects. Together, we'll build something stronger than any corporate chain ever could.

Help us

This is about more than just about saving a local business, it's about creating a new model for independent climbing walls. If you've ever climbed here, made friends here, or simply believe independent community spaces matter, we'd love your support.

Help us raise £10,000, keep BlocFit independent, and prove that when a community comes together, it can build something that lasts.

In addition you can upgrade your membership to a full year by coming into the wall for the price of 11 months [£693] or grab a 10 punch pass [£125]
