Welcome to Big Maya's Jerk, Scarborough's first and only Afro-Caribbean restaurant, where vibrant flavors and community spirit come together in perfect harmony. As the founder, I've poured my heart and soul into creating a space that celebrates diversity and brings people together through food.

However, recent events have shaken me to the core. Being at the receiving end of targeted racism and hate crimes has been nothing short of terrifying. These incidents have left me feeling vulnerable and deeply affected on a personal level.

The challenges we've faced extend beyond the physical damage caused by vandalism. We're currently in dire need of security measures to protect our staff and patrons. Specifically, we will invest in CCTV cameras and shutters for the shop, as well as replace our vandalized windows. These measures will not only provide peace of mind but also serve as a deterrent to future incidents.

As I navigate through this storm, I find myself struggling with keeping myself personally sustainable and feeling extremely isolated. The weight of these relentless challenges has taken a toll on my physical and mental well-being. Despite this, I remain resolute in my determination to persevere.

Amidst the darkness, there remains a glimmer of hope. I refuse to let these trials defeat me or dim the light of Big Maya's Jerk. Thus, I'm launching this campaign to rally support from our community and beyond. Your contributions will not only fund crucial security measures but also ensure the continued operation of our beloved restaurant.

Furthermore, your support sends a powerful message: that racism and hate have no place in our community. Together, we can stand up against bigotry celebrate the diversity that we brought to Scarborough, and help preserve it
