Uniting local people, BBC staff, contractors & all those determined to ensure this historic site is retained for film & TV production.
In August 2022, following widespread speculation, it was confirmed that the BBC is looking to "dispose" of its BBC Elstree Studios, in Borehamwood. In fact, the BBC’s property agent had already been actively marketing the site for some time.
This is a critical moment for all of us concerned with Borehamwood and Hertsmere’s film and TV heritage, and its economic future as a centre for the UK’s creative industries.
It is shocking that the BBC have taken this decision at a time when SKY are looking for permission to build on Borehamwood’s precious green belt to expand their own recently built studio complex.
At a time when studio space is in huge demand and Borehamwood is already under threat of densification, the prospect of part of the BBC Elstree site being turned into housing is opposed by the overwhelming majority of local people.
The ‘Save BBC Elstree Studios’ campaign has been launched by local activists, Councillors and industry figures - all concerned to secure the entire BBC Elstree site as part of Borehamwood’s renewed creative arts sector.
In order to succeed this campaign will need resources to communicate our message, to reach out to potential supporters and to ensure that this issue remains high on the public agenda.
