The people of Derby and the Tree Dwellers, saved Bass Rec twenty years, from unsustainable development. Our parkland and valuable childrens service is threatened again, by 'technology'-obsessed companies, aided by Derby City Council.
A proposed pumping station is planned on the covenant land - most of Bass Rec is under a restrictive covenant which forbids any other use apart from recreational, by the people of Derby- and will only worsen floodrisk downstream (to communities in Alvaston, Elvaston, Thulston and beyond. + the RR nuclear reactor at Alvaston which had to be evacuated because of the river levels rising, in 2019 and 2022) - and be flooded itself, by the River Derwent, which has flooded many times in the last 20 years.
We have put forward sustainable blue-green infrastructure proposals instead. These are being taken up by forward-thinking cities, across the world.
A cease and desist letter was sent to Derby City Council. They ignored it and the destruction continues. despite an Arboricultural Officer stating that a tree survey had to be carried out first. The planning application documents are also incomplete. Complaints have been made. DCCs own planning application form contains incorrect information stating that no trees would be cut down! This is patently untrue, as we have photographed some cut down today (4/3/2022)
We plan to take Derby City Council to court over their illegal actions.
