ACID (Archaeology and Conservation in Derbyshire and the Peak District) is a long-running and popular heritage magazine showcasing local archaeology and conservation stories. It is produced each year by DAAC - a not-for-profit group bringing together archaeologists from local societies, councils, universities, museums and professional bodies - and until last year it has been funded jointly by grants from the Peak District National Park and Derbyshire County Council.
You can read this year's magazine and some back issues here: ACID 2024
ACID is keenly awaited each year as we approach its launch at Derbyshire Archaeology Day, and we know that the free print version - available in local libraries, visitor centres, museums and schools - reaches communities and individuals who would not usually search out a heritage publication online.
Unfortunately, Derbyshire County Council has withdrawn its grant due to budget pressures, and we need to raise funds to make up the shortfall, or risk losing all the outreach benefits from this much-loved magazine.
Thanks to the Peak District National Park maintaining its usual grant, and generous donations from Derbyshire Archaeological Society, ON Bookshop, and the Hunter Archaeological Society, we have been able to fund editorial and design work on ACID 2025 - so we have at least an online magazine. However, we are still some way short of being able to produce our usual print run.
Our target for this crowdfunder is to raise £1400, which would enable us to print 2000 copies of ACID 2025. Any additional donations would enable us to get closer to our normal print run of 4000. Any funds raised beyond this would be used towards production of the 2026 edition.
If the £1400 target is not met then donations will be refunded (unless we are able to make up the shortfall in another way).
Please consider making a donation to keep ACID alive! The magazine has a long reach - if all our regular readers over the years would consider donating £10, we would soon reach our target. Any size donation is, of course, equally welcome - we know that times are tight.
Thank you!
