Aim

Please help save 2020 Skate & Ride from closing it's doors forever.

2020 Skate & Ride...

is a small not for profit business. Providing a safe and dry place for all ages to come and skate board, scooter, BMX or roller blade. These sports inspire both boys and girls, neurodivergent and neurotypical riders alike. They promote fitness, confidence, friendship, achievement, good mental wellbeing, and keep kids off screens and out being active.

2020 Skate & Ride is run by volunteers who are passionate about keeping the space open for our customers. Not only is it a lovely community to be part of, but because Bridport does not have other facilities for this sport. Unlike other towns that have outdoor parks.

2020 Skate & Ride offers a dry and safe venue, where volunteer staff are at hand. The light will not run out and spectators can sit comfy and buy a drink or snack. The camera's are rolling, and the music is playing.  The atmosphere is friendly and respectful of all its users.  Offering it's own community of ages between 4 and 57 (maybe higher, but we don't like to ask!).

Young and older travel to use 2020 Skate & Ride. Especially in the darker, wetter and colder months. We are currently welcoming customers from Western Super Mare, Verwood, Sherborne, Yeovil and Exeter to name a few.

Skate boarding, BMXing and Scootering is proven to be a popular extreme sport. Events are held all over the world and Dorset alone has scooter fanatics ranked in the top 10 in the UK. There is a strong push to have freestyle Scootering included in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, following the successful inclusion of skateboarding in 2021 at Tokyo.

Please Help Save 2020 Skate and Ride...

The small business is not for profit, and runs merely on the income from customers and a yearly small town council grant.

As most of you are aware the Dorset Council Tax rates increased considerably for 2025.  Nearly tripling the monthly bill for 2020 Skate & Ride.

The new Council Tax Rates of £470 per month means the park can no longer cover it's bills, maintenance and improvements. We have appealed to the council for a reduction and still waiting their response.

If no relief is awarded 2020 Skate & Ride will close down in April 2026. Unless, with your help, we can find a way to keep the doors open and serving the community.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Firstly 2020 Skate & Ride needs help to cover the new council tax bill. We’ve appealed against the new rates and are currently waiting for the council’s decision.

If the council decides to grant a reduction, that will be fantastic — but if not, we need to raise £3,040, which is the difference between last years bill and this years.

We’re determined to keep 2020 Skate & Ride running as a safe and positive space for local riders, skaters, and families. Every donation will go directly toward keeping our doors open and improving the park.

If a council tax reduction is awarded, we’ll use any remaining raised funds to improve the park, including:

  • Building a new ramp and improving existing features
  • General maintenance and upgrades to keep the park safe and welcoming
  • Volunteer training, including first aid and safety certifications
  • Covering essential bills to keep the facilities running smoothly

Your support helps us maintain and grow a vital space for the local skating community — a place where young people can build confidence, learn new skills, and stay active in a positive environment.

Thank you for helping us keep 2020 Skate & Ride rolling! 🛹

It would also be fantastic to find sponsorship which could offer some financial security going forward into 2026 and onwards. If you are interested in sponsoring the park please be in touch.
