Savage Heart is a theatre piece exploring the treatment of women in Victorian reform homes and the parallels to modern day life.
London, 1867
Hope House prides itself on the reform of fallen women.
Their newest inmate, Polly, arrives with no memory of how she got there.
Horrified by this new life, she dreams of escaping back into the arms of her lover. But within the walls of this house, ghosts are waiting.
Savage Heart is a gothic thriller using puppetry and movement to explore the power of the subconscious and the resilience of women.
Savage Heart is performing in London, Norwich and Sheffield in March 2023.

Who We Are
Certain Dark Things are an award winning theatre company known for creating imaginative and exciting performances using puppetry and movement. We focus on the darker side of life and take pride in making theatre that gets people thinking and talking.
Our previous shows have sold out, won awards and received 5 star reviews!
This project is being created by a team of neurodivergent, chronically ill, disabled and queer artists - exactly the kind of people who may have ended up being sent to a reform home in the 1800's.
Your contributions to this project will help us to create an amazing theatre piece and tell the stories of the women who were outcast from society for simply being 'different'.
Our Work With The Community
During this project we are also hosting workshops in London and Norwich to inspire confidence through creativity. These workshops aim to empower women through use of theatre techniques and build confidence.
The workshops will be free for any female-identifying people aged 18+ and will be completely accessible.
