Community Sauna at Wilderness Wood

Aim

We are excited to create an 8 person sauna in our beautiful 'bath-house' with views through the trees and a cold water plunge pool.

Wilderness Wood is a not-for-profit community woodland. A place to work, play and relax in nature. 

We have talked for years about building a sauna in the woods - 2026 is the year!

We need your help to make this project happen by paying for your woodland sauna in advance, via the rewards listed below, or by giving a donation.

We plan to build the sauna from June to September 2026, using material harvested sustainably from our own woods and working with our enthusiastic community volunteers. A wonderful learning opportunity! 

Wilderness Wood will be spending some of the money from woodland income, but we are fundraising for the following 'big-ticket' items to allow this project to happen this year:

• A big view window so you can sit inside and look out at the trees.
• A sauna stove & rocks 
• A bespoke cold water plunge
• A beautiful tiled floor
• Top grade insulation

If we reach our target, we will use additional money to cover:

• Bucket shower 
• A wood fired water heater (for bathing and cleaning)
• Sauna hats
• Cups and tea equipment
• Locally made baskets for personal belongings

The sauna will be open from autumn 2026 for community sessions every weekend, with some evening sessions for members of the woods and sauna regulars. We expect a community session to cost £15 for an hour, so if you pledge in advance, you will get a 'free' session AND the warm feeling (!) of an extra bit of funding for the project.

People will be able to book the sauna for private sessions at other pre arranged times. 

Our wellbeing practitioners will offer guided sessions at the sauna, with sauna-rituals - which will be advertised on our website as and when.

The sauna will be suitable for people over 18 years old and health and safety information will be provided at the time of booking your session/s.

All sessions will be looked after by a dedicated 'Sauna Keeper' who will care for the wellbeing of the group.
